Professional Sealants: Acrylics, Transparent and Paintable Silicones
Explore our wide range of professional sealants, including acrylic sealants, transparent silicones, and paintable options. Ideal for industrial and commercial uses, these products provide reliable and long-lasting sealing for a variety of applications.
Silicone represents one of the most versatile, economical, and practical sealing materials to use: excellent for repair and sealing, it addresses leakage issues, handles small DIY tasks, or more complex and demanding interventions.
Primarily used for sealing doors, windows, shower enclosures, sinks, and other sanitary fixtures, as well as filling gaps and cracks on masonry or drywall surfaces and for restoration, repair, and building refurbishment works. Other applications include sealing wooden furniture, prefabricated walls, paneling, skirting boards, and attics.
There are various types of silicone sealants, some of which can replicate the effect of wood or metal, blending seamlessly with the treated surface. Color options vary as well: clear and white are the most common, while there are also black, gray, and other more unique versions.
Acrylic Silicone: Features and Applications
The choice of silicone type primarily depends on the compatibility of the physical and mechanical characteristics of the silicone's chemical anchors with the material of the surface to be sealed.
Even within the extensive family of acrylic silicones, different chemical compositions make various products more or less suitable for certain applications and surfaces.
Acrylic Silicone: What It Is and How It's Used
Acrylic silicone is an odorless sealant based on a one-component water-based dispersion system, which, once cured, can be painted with specific water-based paints.
Like other one-component systems triggered by humidity, acrylic silicone polymerizes through polycondensation and is effective where both bonding and sealing are required.
It is suitable for sealing porous surfaces such as wood, drywall, and concrete, for repairing and sealing cracks or fissures on walls and prefabricated panels, while it is not suitable for use on smooth metals.
Having a package of silicone at home is always useful, as it can be used for small household repairs, quick interventions to repair cracks and accidental breakages, and for carrying out routine maintenance work.
Characteristics of Acrylic Silicones
Acrylic silicone differs from acetic silicone. Knowing the characteristics and differences between these two types is essential for carrying out home improvement work properly.
Let's see the main characteristics of acrylic sealant silicone:
- Odorless
- Elastic at low temperatures
- Highly resistant to UV rays
- Easy to apply (provided the surface is perfectly clean)
- Paintable with water-based paints
- Good resistance to diluted acids and basic substances (but not to oils and fuels)
Acrylic silicone is ideal for sealing porous surfaces such as wood, drywall, and masonry. Its versatility lies mainly in its ability to be painted. Thanks to painting, silicone becomes invisible and blends perfectly with the surface it has been applied to.
Acrylic Silicone for Wood
Specific acrylic silicones for wood are available on the market, which can be used as effective adhesives for laying parquet flooring, but also for sealing wooden fixtures, wooden cladding (wall panels, floors, bins, skirting boards), and for repairing and sealing cracks and fissures on furniture.
In addition to adhering perfectly to wood, these products can also be used on plaster, masonry, and drywall: once dried (just 30 minutes from application), acrylic silicones for wood can be sanded, smoothed, and painted with parquet varnishes, tempera paints, and interior acrylic paints, both water-based and solvent-based.
Acrylic Silicone: Prices
The average costs of standard acrylic silicones, paintable for walls and cracks, in white or transparent versions, range from 2 to 8 euros for a 300 ml package. The price range mainly depends on the product's quality and trust in the manufacturer.
The price could slightly increase, ranging between 9 and 10 euros, for acrylic sealants with special features such as rough finish, wood effect, metal effect, or different colors.
